JOG - A - THON
Thank you everyone who participated and donated to this year's Jump - a - thon!
October 23rd, 2020 - Sauvie Island School JUMP - A - THON
As 2020 has brought many challenges to our school, our director and staff have
been working tirelessly to find solutions to ease our current funding gap. Each
year the school starts at a major deficit, which has been made even broader due
to the global pandemic.
Sauvie Island School has been able to maintain a 1:1 student to iPad ratio over
the past years, with the help of your donations, which has made for a smooth
transition to comprehensive distance learning.
Our biggest challenge is raising the $17,000 we need to purchase new
technology and maintain that ratio in grades K-8.
While we acknowledge everyone has been impacted by this health crisis, SIS
welcomes any donation you are able to give. Supporting our school benefits our
students and enriches the community of Sauvie Island. Donations of any
amount will be recognized on our social media platforms.
Current Oregon law allows for charter schools to be funded at 80% of what a
traditional public school receives. This means that, for the 2020-2021 school
year, the funding gap is $437,965. To help bridge this gap students and staff
will be participating in a school wide zoom Jump-A-Thon from home and
collecting pledges. Our goal is $17,000!
Sauvie Island School is a K-8 lottery based charter school, which draws
students from Portland to Rainer. We strive to integrate the concepts of Place-
Based Education, Project-Based Learning, and Thematic Instruction into a
quality, standards-based core curriculum so that students are engaged with what
they're learning and are connected to their community.
